Letterkenny girl Shauna McFadden has her first race with her new team this weekend when she takes part in the Women’s National Series event in Carlow.
A fifth year student at Loreto Secondary School, Shauna, from Rahan, has signed for Team Jadan Weldtite and in 2017 is set to ride for the team in Ireland, Britain and across Europe.
Shauna will compete for the Junior Under-18s.
A numberof local businesses have rowed in behind Shauna as she embarks on a big year of her development, with Peter McLean Wedding Cars and McDonald’s, Letterkenny her main sponsors.
Jason Black of Voodoo Performance, Terance Diver from Diver’s Hyundai, Arthur McMahon from Donegal Oil and LK Bikes have also stepped in with support.
“It’s going to be a big year for Shaun,” said her father, Sean.
“It’s an exciting time and an exciting year as she gets better and better. She’ll have seven races and will be over and back to the team, who are based in England.”
In 2015, she was a member of the Irish team that competed in the Youth Olympics in Georgia.
Last year, after coming runner-up in the Phoenix GP in Belfast in April, Shauna landed a superb victory in May when taking in the McCann Cup in Omagh.
She also competed in three of the races in the crit series in England. This was followed with a trip to Denmark, where she helped a Danish team to team victory in a three-day event.
Thereafter, she competed in Belgium while she finished third in the Irish Under-18s.
