Letterkenny’s Conor McMenamin made his All Ireland League (AIL) debut for City of Derry this afternoon.
Although City of Derry went down 27-10 away to Bangor in Division 2C, it was a big day for McMenamin.
Ulster and Ireland underage lock McMenamin was handed a first start by Paul O’Kane.
At the Ulster Rugby awards in May, McMenamin was named as Ulster’s Youth Player of the Year and is earmarked as one for the future by the province.
Today marked another step in his development with a first AIL appearance.
Adam Bratton gave City of Derry the lead when he got over for a try after just three minutes and Simon Logue added another.
City of Derry led 10-5 at half-time with Phil Broderick getting a try for Bango.
Dessie Fusco and Nathan Graham got over in the second half to give Bagor a precious win and a try bonus.
City of Derry are up against Omagh and Malahide in their next two outings.
