Letterkenny-based physiotherapist Johnny Loughrey was part of the medical team for the European Athletics Championships in Berlin.
Ireland came away with one medal, a bronze with Thomas Barr’s impressive showing in the 400metre hurdles.
Johnny (above right), the managing director of JT Physiotherapy, was also part of the recent Under-18 championships in Gyor, Hungary.
“It’s great to be involved with Irish athletics at such a massive event and to be near trackside when Thomas Barr was on the home straight was electric,” Loughrey said.
Barr won bronze in the 400m hurdles on Thursday night – the first Irish male sprint medal in the event’s history.
Barr was behind Karsten Warholm from Norway and Turkish athlete Yasmani Copello as the Waterford man finished in a season’s vest 48.31.
