With the weather holding out longer than expected, local golfers once again queued for the opportunity to take to the luscious fairways of Barnhill.
Grasping the ideal scoring conditions was the much travelled Michael Costello [10] who, starting with a birdie at Glebe [2nd] followed by a bogey at Swilly [3rd] and a ‘blank’ at 6th, replied with birdies on back nine at Stack Yard [14th and 18th for a n inward nine return of 22pts and a winning score 42pt. total.

In runner-up spot was the in-form player of the month, Eunan Mc Garrigle [12]. Starting somewhat waywardly with a double bogey at Hall Door [1st] and the same score at Greenhills [8th], Eunan recorded birdies on inward nine at 12th, 16th and 18th, but that ‘blank’ at Candalabra [15th] put paid to his chances of the win.
In third place was J.P. Clarke [11] who, having taken the turn with 22pts, recorded ‘blanks’ at 12th and 14th before replying with a birdie at Bridal Path [18th to finish on 38pts. Gross prize went to Don Ponsonby [5] who, despite a ‘blank’ recorded at 3rd, fought back with birdies at 6th, 8th and par five 18th for 30 gross pts.

Saturday 10th Open saw the ‘form’ player take top spot this time out, Eunan Mc Garrigle [12] with a magnificent 45pts. Recording a two over gross score [22pts] on front nine, Eunan returned an almost flawless inward nine of 23pts, one over gross, with the help of a birdie at 15th.
In runner-up spot was cat 4 stalwart Malcolm Crawford [19] with an equally high score of 43pts. With a ‘blank’ at Sliabh Sneacht [4th] and a birdie at Aughaninshin [17th], Malcolm’s back nine of 24pts was enough to outpoint former club captain Tom Mc Donagh [21] whose 22pts on the way home gave him a finishing total of 40pts and a placing due to B.O.T. Saturday’s gross was won once again by Simon Stephens [3] with 34 gross pts., consisting of birdies at 7th, 10th, 11th and 14th, giving him a gross score of –2 [34].
Sunday 11th confined competition was won by Michael Forde [14]. Following a birdie at 1st with a double bogey at 4th, Michael replied with an eagle three at par five Settlement [11th] Â followed by a birdie at par three Barnhill [16th] returning a level par back nine and 24pts. Great return from a cat 2 golfer.
Following closely in second was Darragh Heaney [13] with 42pts. Following his outward nine of 20pts with 22pts on back nine consisting of a birdie at 17th but regretting a double bogey at Cornagill [10th]. Relegated to third place by B.O.T. was Bryan Harkin [26] whose birdie at Inishowen [5th] was followed by a ‘blank’ at 8th. Â
Best gross score was returned by club Captain Gerard Duffy [5] who, with birdies at 2nd , 3rd and 4th followed by three bogeys for a level par front nine, proceeded to record his only blemish on back nine at 17th to finish with 35gross pts.
