The Club Open of Wednesday 26th August was won by Seamus Patton [6], our club’s Fred Daly team coach, with a one over gross 73 score.
Seamus followed back-to-back birdies at the Swilly [3rd] & Sliabh Sneacht [4th] holes with another birdie at Ramsay’s Isle [7th] and then recorded a level par round from 8th thru 18th for a count of 26pts, culminating in a winning score of 41pt. total to relegate William White [12] to runner-up spot on B.O.T. William, in good form during the season, followed a “blank” at Inishowen [5th] with a birdie at 7th and continued his solid round with a second birdie at 13th for a two over gross inward nine of 22pts.
In third place with 40pts, albeit on a 4-way B.O.T., was Ulster Cup & Seniors team stalwart Hugh Gallagher [12], just nudging the cat.3 player in form recently, Stephen Harris [15].

Friday 28th saw the long awaited Junior’s Captain’s Day [Chris Duffy] take place and claiming the honour this year was James Sweeney[25] on a B.O.T. with a two under score of 70 nett, relegating one of the junior players of the year, Patrick Page [12] to second place. Best gross on the day was returned by Jack Patton [4] with a 77 gross.
Saturday 29th competition, sponsored by Michael Murphy Sports, Letterkenny, was won by the club’s house convenor, Enda Mannion [13]. Enda, with a steady start, followed his “blank” score at par three 8th with a birdie at Cornagill [10th] to record 20pts over both nines and pip runner-up Eamonn Mc Glinchey [7] by one point. Eamonn’s double bogey at the Hall Door [1st] was quickly erased by a birdie at 2nd and, despite a bogey at the Settlement [11th], Eamonn’s birdie at 18th helped him return a level par score from Greenhills [8th] thru to the Bridal Path [18th] and a 39pt finish. In third place was Shay Henry [14] whose front nine of 21pts wasn’t enough to win through on B.O.T. Best gross with a return to form was Shane Blake [5] with 32 gross pts.
The Sunday 30th Confined competition was won by Patrick Murray [11] who stretched the field with a winning score of 43pts. Following a birdie at 1st with a disappointing double bogey at the Glebe [2nd] to take the turn with 21pts, Patrick’s birdie at 18th helped him return a two over par back nine to consolidate the win.
In second place was Kieran Sweeney [6] on 39pts. Kieran’s outward nine was not too auspicious looking with a bouble bogey at 4th followed by a birdie at 7th, but a fighting one over par return from Greenhills [8th] thru to 18th, which included a birdie at the Bridal Path, gave him a one point advantage over Tommy Greally [22] who, with a birdie recorded at Swilly [3rd], finished on 38pts. Best Gross on the day was recorded by Darragh Mc Menamin [4], whose card showed us why we should never give up on our round.
Despite three “blanks” on the card, Darragh’s birdies at 8th, 14th, 15th and 18th gave him an unexpected gross of 31pts.
Sunday also saw the long-awaited Junior Captain’s Prize [Chris Duffy] played for and the proud winner was one of the most improved and long term club prodigy’s, Cian Harkin [8].
Answering a double bogey at 4th with birdies at Inishowen {5th] and & 7th, Cian recorded a magnificent level par outward nine and, despite a double bogey at Candleabra [15th], another follow-up birdie at 16th gave him the countback win on a B.O.T. with 39pts. from Lee Walsh [13]. Lee, another of the club’s dedicated junior’s with a bright golfing future, showed his good form of late with a late run but just missed out on last three holes.
