Monday 7th saw the Cat.4. Player of the Year  listing hot up when Garvin Mc Gahey moved into third place on the leaderboard by coming second in the Monday evening eleven hole competition with 23pts.
Claiming top spot on the B.O.T. countback was Mark Carrigy. This result leaves joint top runners Aiden O’ Neill and Michael Mc Daid sharing on 86pts, with Garvin chasing fast on the inside on 73pts. Following on one week to the 14th, 16 Cat 4 members played (9 holes) and taking top spot here was Jack McGarrigle on 18 pts. Excitement, and apprehension, growing for the finale and the J.J. Doherty Trophy!!
Wednesday 9th Club Open was won in fine style by J.P.Clarke [10] who, despite a “blank” at the Hall Door [1st], returned a one under gross score from 4th thru 18th and the equivalent of 39pts. With birdies recorded at Barnhill [16th] and the Bridal Path [18th], J.P’s overall score amounted to a prizewinning 43pts.
Following closely in runner-up spot, and making a welcome return to Barnhill, was Karol Harvey [16] on 41pts. Following his double bogey at 1st with a birdie at Inishowen [5th], Karol’s 21pt outward nine had him well on track for a winning score only for double bogey’s at 14th and 18th to leave him short.
In third place was the big-hitting Kevin Rafferty [6], relegating Anthony Delap to 4th on B.O.T. With a birdie at 2nd followed by a bogey at 4th, Kevin’s front nine of level par [21pts] followed by another birdie at 11th needed a strong finish but, alas, bogies at 13th, 14th & 15th left him with a two over par gross, still not enough.
Saturday 12 Open placings was dominated by Cat 4 and Cat 3 members, with well known local newspaper scribe and club stalwart Diarmaid Doherty [24] taking top honour.
Proving that practice does pay off, Diarmaid’s iron play gave him a winning platform of 20pts at the turn and with steady, course management on inward nine, Diarmaid’s return of 39pts was enough to pip runner-up Mark Cohen [18] on B.O.T. Mark’s birdie at Glebe [2nd], sandwiched between double bogeys at 1st & 3rd still helped him to a 21pt front nine but that double bogey at the Stack Yard [14th] had him lose out on the countback.
Another relegated on that B.O.T. was John Bowe [21] coming in third on the countback. Gross on the day was Connor Friel [5] on 34 gross pts. With birdies at 2nd, 5th & 7th giving him a two under gross score at the turn, an unfortunate run of bogey’s at 16th, 17th & 18th gave way to two over finish.
Sunday 13th Confined competition was won by Liam Sweeney [15] who, despite having two double bogeys in first four holes, found his concentration to finish with 22pts on back nine for a 42pt finish and pip runner-up Emmet O’ Donnell [17] on B.O.T.
Emmet couldn’t follow up his fine 22pts on front nine, but had enough to outpoint third placed Derek Wilson [16]. Derek answered his double bogey at Swilly [3rd] with back-to-back birdies at Sliabh Sneacht  [4th] and 5th holes for a 24pt outward nine but, despite another birdie at 18th, Derek’s “blank” at Barnhill [16th] and double bogey at 17th lost him top spot.
Gross prize was again won by that man in form, Connor Friel [5] with birdies at 7th and at the Settlement [11th] helping him to 34 gross pts.
