VEREADA BASHAR FROM Letterkenny has finished second in the ‘Fastest kid in Ireland’ at AIT International Arena, Athlone.
The student from Scoil Mhuire Gan Scoil, Letterkenny clocked 3.03 seconds over the 20m track, to win the Donegal final last week at Finn Valley AC.
Children ran over a ‘flying 20 metres’. Using speed gates, the child’s time is recorded as they run, full speed, through two gates 20 metres apart.
The event – for children up to the age of eight – is sponsored by Firefly Foot and Ankle Clinic, Sligo.
Firefly will send the fastest boy and girl along with a parent/guardian to New York to race at the prestigious Millrose Games in Manhattan on the weekend of February 20 – with flights and accommodation to be paid by Firefly the sponsors.
