Letterkenny Blaze Basketball Club will host one of four qualifying tournaments in this year’s Basketball Ireland’s U18 Men’s Hula Hoop National Cup.
This weekend, Saturday November 7 and Sunday 8, the tournament will be played in An Dánlann, LiIT Sports Centre from 9am both mornings and games will go on into late on Saturday evening.
There will be refreshments available to purchase at the gym with the onsite catering company looking after this.
Seven teams from all over the country St Brendan’s BC Tralee, St Mary’s BC Castleisland, Neptune BC Cork, Killester BC Dublin, Titans BC Galway and old rivals Belfast Star BC along with our own Under-18 Men’s team will battle it out for a place in the quarter finals of this competition.
The pedigree of the participating teams will give spectators the opportunity to view the high standard of basketball being played at this level around the country.
There has been a huge resurgence of the game over the last number of years with Basketball Ireland working hard under extremely difficult circumstances to grow the sport again to what it was back in the golden era of the 1980/90’s.
There are now many Irish teenagers attending elite academies, prep schools in America and others on scholarships at Division one colleges in the US as the sport continues to grow.
