Caitriona Jennings stormed to national success in Sunday morning’s National Half Marathon Championship, which was subsumed within the Dublin Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon.
Jennings won the silver medal in the women’s race in a time of 1.18.57.
The winner was North Belfast’s Gladys Ganiel in 1.17.06.
Andrea McFeely had a good run and completed the 13.1 mile course in 2.03.50.
In Tuesday evening’s St Mary’s CLG 5K in Convoy, the first Letterkenny AC runner to cross the finishing line was Ivan Toner.
Ivan, a very consistent performer, clocked 16.47. He was 3rd overall and 2nd in the M40 category, which was the most competitive classification in the race; 5 of the top 6 finishers were in the M40 category.
The winner was Finn Valley AC M40 runner, Dermot McElchar, in 16.02.
The next LAC runner was another very consistent athlete, Barry Mackey. Barry’s time of 19.05 gave him a top 10 finish and another M50 first place. Barry, just like last summer, has picked up a huge number of M50 prizes in Grand Prix events.
Irene McFadden had a fine run and she was the first F40 finisher in 19.54. Her LAC club mate, Sheila Reagan, enjoying her annual holiday from Boston, was the next F40 runner in a time of 21.34.
Danny Mooney was a convincing winner of Thursday evening’s ‘Jog in the Bog’ in Derry. Danny’s winning time of 16.27 saw him finish 8 seconds clear of his nearest challenger, Gavin Corry of Sperrin Harriers.
Pauric Breslin had a fine run in the Ballyare 10K on Friday evening. He came second to Finn Valley’s Mark McPaul in a time of 34.15.
Sean McFadden was 5th overall and 1st in the M40 category in 36.29. Gerard McGranaghan’s time of 37.39 gave him a top 10 finish.
Like many races this summer, the women’s race was again LAC 1-2-3. Fionnuala Diver was the winner in 38.30, followed by Nakita Burke in 39.45 and Shauna McGeehan who clocked 40.51.
Aidan McKenna’s time was 41.03.
Monica McGranaghan took first prize in the F40 age grouping in 41.19. Ciaran O’Donnell has made a successful comeback from knee surgery last year. He continued his build up to the Dublin Marathon with a time of 41.25. John Hughes came home in 42.46. Sheila Regan’s time of 43.40 gave her 2nd place in the F40 category.
There were also good runs from Stephen Shiels 44.02, Paul Lee 44.12, Frank Pinder 44.24 and Naoise Enright 45.32. Kevin Greenan continued the winning sequence he has enjoyed since the Boston Marathon in April and took the M60 prize in 45.41.
Phil Boyle clocked 48.27, Marian Kerr 48.58, Margaret Shiels 49.43 and Maura O’Grady 50.49.
Martin Gormley continued his excellent record in the Letterkenny parkrun, on Saturday morning. Martin won the race in 19.38 which gave him a 47 second gap over his closest challenger.
This was Martin’s 4th victory in his 6th Letterkenny parkrun. His other 2 attempts saw him finish 2nd and 3rd. In addition, Martin has run the Derry parkrun 3 times and has been the winner on each occasion. Richard Raymond, who had celebrated his birthday a day earlier, had a top 10 finish in a time of 22.35. The big Kerryman was 1st in the M60-64 category.
Adrian Callaghan travelled to Galway at the weekend and put on a fine performance in the ‘Streets of Galway 8K’. Adrian clocked 33.11, which gave him a finish inside the top 8% of the 2489 runners.
The race was won in a very fast time of 23.44 by Clonmel AC’s Kevin Maunsell.
Linda Cronin ran 1.40 for the Monaghan 10 Mile Race on Sunday.
Speaking afterwards, Linda said she “ran at a steady pace and was delighted to complete my first ever 10 mile race.”
The winning numbers for the LAC lotto on August 10th were 4,6, 16, 20. There was no jackpot winner. 2 people- Paul Lee and Aidan McKenna- won €40 for matching 3 numbers.
