Lee Henderson says the Donegal hurlers will need to go to the higher gears if they are to get back into Division 2B this year.
Donegal – pictured above by Geraldine Diver – overcame Louth in Letterkenny on Sunday when they hit 13 points-in-a-row to win 2-23 to 1-14 and they now face Monaghan on Sunday in Castleblaney.
Brian McGuigan netted a hat-trick as the Farney defeated Tyrone 3-15 to 1-11 on Sunday.
“It’ll be a bigger step up against Monaghan,” Donegal’s Lee Henderson said.
“We’re just happy to get over the line on the first day. We got off to a flyer, but we need to keep it going now.
[adrotate group=”46″]“Our prime goal is to get back to Division 2B. We want to get for the League final and get promotion. It’s great to get new blood and new voices always help to spur boys on.”
Donegal gave debuts to Armagh native Declan Coulter – a Nicky Rackard All-Star last year with the Orchard last year – and Tipperary man Davin Flynn, while Donegal youngsters like Richie Kee and Cathal Doherty also made their senior bows.
Henderson said: “The scoreline probably flattered us a wee bit towards the end. Our fitness told and we ran away with it.
“You wouldn’t have said that at half-time. We always knew what Louth were going to bring. We knew we were in a game and we got a telling off at half-time.
“We knew they’d get a purple patch. We stuck to the gameplan and got back on top.
