THE EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships have been pushed back until new dates in May.
The Championships, which are to include Donegal puncher Leah Gallen, had been initially to take place in Montenegro from April 22-May 3.
However, due the Covid-19 pandemic, which has forced an almost-global shutdown of major sporting events, means that organisers have been forced to postpone the Championships.
The EUBC have pencilled in May 15-May 27 as the new dates, but say they will continue to monitor the situation.
“With safety and well-being of all our members in mind, as well as taking into account the input of the Local Organizing Committee and other relevant authorities, EUBC has taken a decision to postpone EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships,” a statement said.
“EUBC will monitor the situation of the spread of COVID-19 and reserves the right to review the dates of the Championships, if the problem has not yet been resolved.
“We appreciate the efforts of the BUDVA 2020 Local Organizing Committee and thank you for your understanding in this matter.”
Raphoe ABC welterweight Gallen recently won the sixth Irish title of her career. Gallen defeated Crumlin’s Shelby Myers in the Irish Under-18 decider.
The Raphoe star is already a two-time European bronze medalist. Having won a European Schoolgirl bronze in 2018, Gallen took a bronze from the Eurpean Youths last year and will bid for another nugget this time around.
