JOHNNY DUNLEAVY and Cork City sent out a real message of intent last night when they defeated Dundalk 1-0 at Oriel Park.
A second-half penalty by former Dundalk player Seán Maguire handed Cork the win that takes them to the top of the table.
It was Dundalk’s first home defeat in the League in three years.
Ballybofey man Dunleavy is Cork’s captain and was a rock in their defence as John Caulfield’s men held on for a memorable win.
The Leesiders have watched Dundalk bag the title at their expense in each of the last two seasons.
Nathan Boyle’s late double fired Derry City to a 2-1 win over Galway United at The Brandywell.
City trailed to Kevin Devaney’s first-half opener, but Boyle drilled home an equaliser in the 75th minute.
And it got even better for Boyle and the Candystripes two minutes into added time at the end when Boyle stole in and hammered past ex-Finn Harps goalkeeper Conor Winn to earn Derry their third win in a row
Last year, Boyle spent the latter half of the season on loan at Harps and scored five goals.
Donegal men Barry McNamee, Ronan Curtis and Gareth McGlynn started for Derry while former Harps striker Ruairi Keating playted the second half for Galway.
In the First Division, Georgie Kelly played for UCD, but they lost 3-1 at home to Waterford United.
