THERE WAS DISAPPOINTMENT for Jordan Boyce in this afternoon’s World Youth Championship final at the Lakeside.
The 16-year-old Newtowncunningham schoolboy lost 3-2 against England’s Joshua Richardson in an enthralling Lakeside final.
There was much to admire about Boyce’s performance, not least his speed at the oche and he pushed his opponent every inch of the way.

Indeed, it was only in the fifth and decisive set that Richardson pulled away.
It was a mark of Boyce’s talents how much he questioned Richardson’s mettle throughout the final given that the Rushden native had lost only three legs in his qualifying rounds.
Boyce was 2-0 down in the first set, but he battled back to win the set.
Boyce took his opening leg with double 4 and checked out on 20s to level the set before he arrowed his tungsten into double 12 to claim the first set.
Richardson powered back to claim the second set 3-0, but it was Boyce who was on fire in the third set, checking out with a 52 finish to get back in front.
However, Richardson blitzed the fourth set to level the contest and send the match into that final set.
Boyce levelled after Richardson took the first leg, but as the match reached its conclusion it was Richardson – almost two years Boyce’s senior – who found his groove to take the win.
Boyce receives £2,000 for finishing as the runner-up while Richardson collects £5,000.
