A LAGHEY MAN has just won a gold medal at the 2016 European Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Portugal.
William Timoney was competing in the ultra heavyweight white belt division and won his three fights to take the gold.
After overcoming Pedro Alexandre Teles Da Silva in his opening fight, he won his next two to get top the top of the podium.
Timoney then defeated Pylyp Iudin of Wing BJJ in his semi-final before defeating Ilias Hadi from Belgium in his final contest.
Timoney trains under brown belt Bryan Gorman at DT Fitness in Donegal Town and travelled to Portugal as part of the Rilion Gracie Ireland team.
The Championships are being held in Odivelas, near Lisbon and 3,517 registered competitors have entered.
Bundoran man Gavin Bowe competes tomorrow.
