LAGAN HARPS FACE Douglas Hall on Sunday in the semi-final of the FAI Umbro Women’s Under-18 Challenge Cup.
Bríd McGinty’s side take on the Cork girls at Parnell Park, Dublin, at 1pm with a place in the final – against Castlebar Celtic or Murroe FC – at stake.
McGinty hopes to have ace left-back Zoe Green available for the fixture. The Rathmullan woman has been called up to a training camp with the Republic of Ireland Under-17s, but hopes are high that the player will be released to line out for her club.
Green is among an international cast at Lagan, having played in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers in Turkey in October.
Green, Ciana Brogan and Caoimhe Walsh have all donned the Irish green in recent times.
In November, Lagan overcame Castlebar Town 5-0 at Milebush Park with Walsh and Amy Boyd netting a brace apiece and Amanda Callaghan also on the mark.
“We have a very young side with all bar three eligible to play next year again,” McGinty said.
“Douglas Hall are a good side and had four players – Meghan Dennehy, Michelle Condon, Jade Fox and Aoife Russell – involved with Cork for last weekend’s 2-1 Inter-League win over Limerick and Dennehy scored twice.
“We’re looking forward to the game. It would be great for the girls to have a big final to look forward to.”
