The Under-16 girls from Orchard Park (pictured above) secured the Donegal Women’s League Under-16 title after a hard-fought draw with fellow title challengers Donegal Town in Fintown.
Donegal Town dominated the game for long pweriods in the first half and, assisted with the strong wind, created good scoring chances with Amy Boyle Carr and Jodie Walker seeing efforts kept out by Lagan’s defence, where Aoife Page, Shannon Cunningham, Courtney Coyle and Chantel Kelly stood tall.
The best chance of the first half was just before half time when Danielle McDevitt’s free kick was superbly saved by Ciana Brogan.
Lagan got more into the game in the second half with Zoe Green and Caoimhe Walsh – who recently played for the Republic of Ireland Under-17s – started to get on top.
With 10 minutes remaining, Áine Deasley’s cross was turned just wide by Bronagh Gallagher.
Lagan held firm late on when Donegal Town turned the screw with Walker and Boyle Carr asking the questions.
The referee awarded Aoife Page the player of the match and there was further celebrations as Lagan toasted their League win.
