TWO Lagan Harps girls featured as the Republic of Ireland women’s Under-17’s got their season up and running with a 2-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland in Ballymena this afternoon.
Zoe Green (pictured above) played the full game at the back and was joined in the second half by 55th-minute substitute Caoimhe Walsh.
Tiegan Ruddy put Ireland ahead in the 55th minute when she turned the ball home after getting in front of her marker to steer home from a Lauryn O’Callaghan free-kick.  Niamh Sheehan added the second Irish goal two minutes from time when she found the net after an excellent passing move by the visitors.
This age group is now coached David Bell and the Irish boss was pleased with the performance his new charges produced. The fixture was arranged to launch the famous Northern Ireland Milk Cup which will feature female teams for the first time next year.
