Donegal’s stars of the future are about to get guidance from two of Donegal’s greatest ever footballers, Donegal Sport Hub has learned.
News that Karl Lacey and Colm McFadden are set to work alongside the Donegal Under-16 squad in 2017 will serve to heighten the county’s work at underage level.
Donegal has had good success from Buncrana Cup, Jim McGuigan and Minor sides of late and the newly-installed Donegal Under-16 manager, Gary Duffy, has sought to add real quality to his backroom team.
Lacey is a four-time All-Star who was the Player of the Year in 2012, when Donegal won the All-Ireland. Lacey remains on the Donegal squad and is expected to make a return to action later in the Allianz League campaign.
[adrotate group=”46″]Lacey is currently lecturing at Letterkenny Institute of Technology and his involvement with the Under-16s will be in the area of strength, conditioning and analysis.
Last summer, Donegal GAA and LyIT launched a partnership with the institute confirmed as the lifestyle and education partner to the Board.
McFadden recently retired from inter-county football as Donegal’s record scorer and record appearance holder. McFadden is involved at coaching in St Eunan’s College and will work as a forwards coach with the county Under-16s.
