LABHAOISE CLARKE won a gold medal at the Brampton Cup in Canada overnight.
The Carndonagh BC bantamweight defeated Canadian Katuishka Vasquee-Soto in the Female Youth Open at 52kgs.
A seven-time Irish champion, Clarke overcame Vasquee-Soto in a superb display. It was Clarke’s first time boxing over four two-minute rounds, but the step up didn’t deter the Inishowen woman, who described herself as ‘absolutely buzzing’ with the win.
At the Bramalea Boxing Club in Ontario, Clarke – who just missed out on a European Championship bronze medal last year – scored a win that goes down as one of the most significant of her young career so far.
“It was a tough fight, but Labhaoise boxed really well,” Irish coach Liam Brereton told Donegal Sport Hub.
“The fight was swaying back and forth, but Labhaoise just blew us all away in the last round. She showed her class. She’s one to watch in the future.”
