A TWISTED ankle, sustained whilst training yesterday, has ruled Mark English out of the World Indoor Championships this week.
The 22-year-old Letterkenny man was set to compete in the men’s 800m in the Championships, which are being held in Portland, Oregon, from March 17-20.
English, a medical student at UCD, had been in bright form at the start of the year and was to form a two-person team sent by Athletics Ireland, but now only Rose-Anne Galligan will compete.
English, who runs for UCD AC these days, will be at the Olympics later this year and had hoped to make an impact on the World stage in Oregon having won a bronze at the 2014 European Championships and a bronze at the 2015 European Indoors.
“It’s disappointing Mark won’t be able to compete in Oregon but thankfully it’s now rather than in the summer,” Kevin Ankrom, Athletics Ireland High Performance Director, said.
