Kilmacrennan Celtic FC have recently launched a campaign to raise money to carry out essential and badly needed repairs to Lurgy Park.
This picturesque football pitch, located on the banks of the river Lurgy in the centre of Kilmacrennan, was first opened in 1990 and has served generations of footballers well in the 26 years since its development.
[adrotate group=”89″]The parish of Kilmacrennan has a proud history of providing opportunities to play football to its young people and the current club committee are determined to continue that tradition.
Lurgy Park has been used over recent seasons for underage football and creates a unique atmosphere for young footballers and spectators being located in a hollow circled by the river and by trees, and many people have positive memories of having played there.
[adrotate group=”38″]Unfortunately the condition of the pitch and its changing facilities have deteriorated in recent years to a state where the club must now act to upgrade Lurgy Park or it will be unable to continue using it as a home base for the club.
The club committee are currently considering options for the development and expansion of the club and top and immediate priority for the committee is the upgrading of Lurgy Park.
Among the urgent works that must be carried out in this first phase of redevelopment include the draining and resurfacing of the pitch and the essential upgrading of the changing rooms. These are essential to the ability of the club to continue to meet its objective of providing sporting and recreational opportunities to the youth in Kilmacrennan and its surrounding areas.
The committee have a provisional target of €5,000 to carry out these essential repairs in the first phase of the development of Lurgy Park and to help fund this project an online fundraising campaign has been established.
[adrotate group=”88″]The Kilmcarennan Celtic football club committee are urging people to help them achieve their aim through supporting their campaign by donating through the “gofundme” website and by helping to spread word of their online campaign through liking and sharing the link for the campaign through social media.
