GOING INTO THIS afternoon’s AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 2 clash at the Banks, something had to give.
Naomh Muire 1-8 Killybegs 2-10
Both Naomh Muire and their visitors hadn’t as much as a point to their name but in the end it was Killybegs who got off the mark.
Killybegs went in at half-time six points in front, 1-7 to 0-4.
Paul Cunningham scored the goal a minute before the break with a simple slap in after Even Broderick’s long ball in.
Killybegs had started with three points from Hugh McFadden frees but Naomh Muire’s Harry Harden – who would score six points in all – had kept his side in touch till the away team team started to move through the gears.
Ryan Ward, Christopher Murrin and Shane Molloy had joined Eoghan Ban Gallagher on the scoresheet towards the end of the half.
Naomh Muire came out fighting at the start of the second half and by the 45th minute were level at 1-7 apiece with Paddy McCafferty goaling. It was in the melting pot, especially with Hugh McFadden black-carded for Killybegs.
However, Killybegs were up for the fight and David McGuinness scored a fine goal that was well worked before late scores from John Ban Gallagher, Broderick and Molloy ensured the win for the Fintra-based team.
