FOUR QUICK-FIRE goals ended Kildrum Tigers Under-13s’ bid for glory in the Johnny Irvine Cup final on Sunday.
Kildrum Tigers 2 Trojans 4
Played at Station Road Park in St Johnston, Shane Porter’s side were stunned when Trojans raced into a four-goal lead.
Ryan McIntyre was on the mark twice, Jack Robb netted another and unfortunate Tiger Adam Callaghan deflected a shot into his own net.
Shane Monaghan had a couple of chances late on in the first half but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The second half saw the real Tigers come to the fore, driven on by Anton Murtagh, who was named Man of the Match.
Murtagh hit the base of the post with one shot before he drilled in two goals to pull his team closer, but the damage had already been inflicted.
“Trojans caught us on the hop early on and everything they touched seem to turn into goals,” Porter said.
“The second half was something for us to be proud of. Had we have started like that it could have been a different story but it wasn’t to be for us.
“Special mention to Trojans centre-half Ryan Kennedy and midfielder Tiarnan McGuinness who were everywhere on the pitch for their side. I would like to congratulate Trojans on another trophy. We’ll be back, bigger and better, next season hopefully.”
