KARL GRIFFIN was an impressive winner of the 800m at Santry in the Morton Games yesterday.
The UCD student (pictured above, No 51, by Kieran Carlin), who is from Mountcharles and coached by Eamon Harvey from TÃr Chonaill Athletic Club, came home first in a time of 1:47.47 to continue his excellent year to date. The 20-year-old finished sixth in the final of the 800m at the European U-23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, two weeks ago.

Mark Hoy from Finn Valley Athletic Club was part of the Irish Milers and finished fourth with 1:50.16 over 800m. Hoy is from Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, and works in Letterkenny as a physiotherapist.
On the same bill at the Morton Games, Jamaica’s Yohan Blake clocked a time of 10.12 seconds for the 100m – the fastest time over the distance ever on Irish soil.
