Julianne Herrity’s Carson-Newman Eagles are heading to the National Championships after a 2-1 win over UC Colorado Springs yesterday.
The win in Kansas City qualifies the Carson-Newman Eagles for the NCAA Championship game, where they’ll face Central Missouri.
The win was the Eagles’ 21st of the year, setting a new program record previously set in the 2009 campaign.
Magda Mosengo headed them in front in the 42nd minute before Emilee Futrell doubled the lead.
Anna Gregg pulled a goal back, but it was the Eagles who held on.
Previously, the Eagles won the South Atlantic Conference Championship and also claimed the NCAA Southeast Regional final.
Herrity was a star in her own playing days at Carson-Newman, where she studied. Now, the Letterkenny woman is a coach to the Eagles. This summer, she played with Sion Swifts before heading back Stateside.
