JOHNNY DUNLEAVY RETURNED to the Cork City side last night as they progressed to the FAI Cup semi-final following a 3-0 win over Derry City.
After a 1-1 draw on Friday night at the Brandywell, it looked as though the stalemate would continue with the replay scoreless for 74 minutes.
However, Cork took the lead 16 minutes from time through a screamer from Ross Gaynor and then added a second through a Garry Buckley header. The win was wrapped up when John O’Flynn posted a third.
Dunleavy (pictured above), a native of Ballybofey, had been sidelined for a month with a broken cheekbone.
Ramelton’s Barry McNamee featured in midfield for Derry, with Cillian Morrison from Letterkenny up front. Buncrana’s Mark Timlin was a 61st minute substitute. Goalkeeper Shaun Patton from Letterkenny and St Johnston’s Ronan Curtis were unused substitutes for Peter Hutton’s team.
Cork will play Bray Wanderers in the semi-final on Sunday, October 4.
