JIM MCGUINNESS has been racking up the air miles since he was first appointed as Celtic FC’s performance consultant back in November 2012.
For two years, McGuinness (pictured above) hop-scotched over and back the Irish Sea to double-job with the Scottish Premiership side and as manager of Donegal.
After last year’s All-Ireland final, in which his side lost 2-9 to 0-12 against Kerry, McGuinness stepped aside from his position with Donegal, after four years as senior boss where he won three Ulster SFC titles and the 2012 All-Ireland championship.
Since then, McGuinness has been keeping in touch with Gaelic games as an analyst with Sky Sports as well as being a columnist in The Irish Times. He was in attendance at Croke Park on Saturday as Donegal overcame Galway 3-12 to 0-11 to seal a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals against Mayo on Saturday.
McGuinness, who is now sports psychologist with Celtic’s first team, was part of the club’s travelling party that left Glasgow airport on Monday for the 3,330-mile flight to Baku, Azerbaijan.
On Wednesday night, Celtic take on Qarabag in the second leg of the third qualifying round in the Champions League, having won last week’s home leg 1-0 in Glasgow courtesy of a Dedryck Boyata’s 82nd minute header.
On Tuesday night, Celtic, with McGuinness, trained at the 31,000 capacity Tofiq Bahramov Stadium.
