Jason Quigley has told Matchroom Sports’ Eddie Hearn: ‘Get me on a card’.
Quigley is currently out of action with the hand injury he sustained in winning the North American middleweight title in March, but hopes to be back in the ring before the end of 2017.
Quigley has an unblemished 13-0 record as a pro and the win over Glen Tapia at Fantasy Springs in March saw the Ballybofey native win his first title.
Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and based in Los Angeles, Quigley has long since stated his aim of landing a bumper pay-per-view fight at home in Ireland. However, Quigley is also keen for a fight in Britain and Hearn could well have the perfect chancre to get the Donegal man on a card.
Hearn promotes English lightweight Luke Campbell who, with a win over Darleys Pérez in April, is the mandatory challenger to WBA champion, Jorge Linares, who is promoted by Golden Boy.
“Definitely, I would like Eddie Hearn to get me on a card,” Quigley said.
“They have the likes of Jorge Linares coming over here and if that fight with Luke Campbell comes off then get me on that card – that would be amazing.
“I met Eddie Hearn at my second pro fight in California when I was on the undercard of Kell Brook’s win over Shawn Porter. Me and Eddie had a brief chat and he was keen to get me over, but we’ve never really talked since about it.
“I’m looking to come back and make a name for myself here as well. I went out to America to learn my trade and get a lot of experience. When the big title shots come in Vegas, I won’t go into the bright lights and be stunned or blinded. Now it’s time for me to dip my feet in the water back here.”
When he was an amateur, Quigley was a Sky Scholar and was back at Sky Sports HQ yesterday, where he appeared on the popular Ringside Toe 2 Toe podcast with Andy Scott and Spencer Fearon.
Quigley had hoped to be on the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin-Saul Alvarez fight in Las Vegas in September, but injury has put a dent in those plans.
However, Quigley said: “I hope to fight again at the end of year, either in November or December. I’m looking to have a similar fight to Glen Tapia, another good test. I need to be in there with guys who will help me grow as a fighter, learn and progress.”
