Jason Quigley is doing a charity sky dive tomorrow – to help raise money for the Brendan Ingle Foundation.
The Donegal middleweight (14-0, 11KOs) will take part in the sky dive alongside his coach Dominic Ingle and fellow boxer Kid Galahad.
Legendary trainer Brendan Ingle, who hailed from Dublin, was the father of Dominic Ingle. He trained four world champions – Prince Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter and Kel Brook – at the famed Wincobank Gym in Sheffield.
Quigley joined forces with Ingle this year and overcame Daniel Rosario in Boston on Easter weekend in his first fight with his new coach.
And the Ballybofey man is only too delighted to help raise funds for the Brendan Ingle Foundation, who aim to erect a bronze statue in his memory in Sheffield.
“Right away, I got a sense of a friendly, nice environment and I’ve seen that has come from Brendan and his structure and the way he set everything out,” Quigley said.
“Every time I turned on the Irish music, he loved it! I’ve had an amazing time at the Ingle Gym so far.”
Brendan Ingle died of a brain hemorrhage in May, but his legacy lives strong in the Steel City.
The Brendan Ingle Foundation was set up to help underprivileged kids.
Dominic Ingle said: “Over the years, thousands of kids came through the gym. He used to say the biggest success stories weren’t the world champions, maybe kids who kept themselves out of trouble.
“There are thousands of stories like that. He had a positive effect on everyone.”
The sky dive aims to raise some much-needed funds and Quigley’s trainer joked: “An English man, and Irish man and an Arab decide to do a sky dive….There’s a joke there somewhere.
“I’m not a fan of heights. It’s a bit of a test. I’m sure someone will push me out!
“I’ve just tried not to think about it. I’ll close my eyes, take a breath and just jump out.”
Kid Galahad added: “Brendan was everything, a mentor and a councillor. He helped so many people. Brendan set the foundation for everything in that gym.”
