JASON QUIGLEY will fight on the undercard of the middleweight title fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Amir Khan in May.
Hot on the heels of his devastating first round win over Freddy Lopez (10-4) last night, Golden Boy Promotions and Sheer Sports Management have booked the unbeaten Ballybofey man for May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Quigley is now 10-0 as a professional and last night’s was his ninth KO, coming just two minutes and one second into the opening stanza of a contest that was scheduled for eight rounds.
Golden Boy Promotions Vice President Eric Gomez floated the idea of Quigley appearing on the Canelo-Khan card in February – and that has now been confirmed.
Alvarez captured the middleweight world championship with a unanimous decision over Miguel Cotto in November at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Quigley was ringside that night and has previously spoken of his burning desire to get the chance to dance with Canelo and his ilk.
Khan made his name at lightweight and is moving to fight for Alvarez’s middleweight belt and the WBC has sanctioned a 155lbs limit – five pounds under the statutory maximum.
The Lineal, Ring and WBC Middleweight belts are on the line when Canelo and Khan clash, while a star-studded undercard will contain David Lemieux v Glen Tapia and Mauricio Herrera v Frankie Gómez, as well as Quigley, whose team are keen for him to go up a significant notch.
