Rhys Irwin racing on the Appleyard Yamaha UK had another successful weekend in challenging conditions.
Thruxton Race Circuit is the fastest track on the BSB calendar and the weather certainly threw everything at the young racers over the three-day meeting.
Rhys’s first time at this track on a bigger bike spent free practice 1 and 2 learning the track. Going into qualifying Rhys felt confident and put in impressive laps winning a coveted spot on the front row of the grid.
Race 1 ended in the grass for the teen with the coming together with another racer, bruised but ready for racing Race 2 saw Rhys back on the grid with a P7 finish with his eye to a podium.
“This has been a hard weekend with changing track conditions constant bike adjustments but I am just delighted with my first Parc Fermé finish on this bike and I have won good points for my championship standing,” said the teen.
Caolán on the R&R Yamaha 600 is also settling in well to his new team R&R Racing had an impressive race weekend getting right up to P4 before a red flag due to dangerous track conditions ended the race prematurely.
“A hard weekend with the first practice dry and the second with heavy rain left us constantly changing bike set up. A red flag is always a disappointing way to end the race but the track was becoming unsafe so the organisers made the right call, the rules have placed me in P7 which is good championship points and I am going home happy.”
