THE Republic of Ireland’s UEFA Euro 2020 Play-Off against Slovakia on March 26th will be played behind closed doors.
The Football Association of Ireland today confirmed the news on the instruction of the Slovakian government.
All fans who purchased tickets for the game in Bratislava will be refunded.
An expected 2,200 Republic of Ireland supporters had bought tickets for the game. There had been around 4,500 applicants.
The decision to play the game behind closed doors follows coronavirus cases in Slovakia which led the government on Monday to announce a 14-day ban on all sporting events in the country.
The winners of the Slovakia v Republic game are scheduled to play either Bosnia-Herzegovina or Northern Ireland away five days later when a spot at Euro 2020 will be up for grabs.
