THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND defeated Switzerland 1-0 in tonight’s international friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Martin O’Neill’s side had Ciaran Clark to thank for a second minute winner when he headed home from close range following a header from Shane Duffy. Clark’s father Michael was brought up in Ballyare, Milford.
Seamus Coleman captained the side, who now look forward to the visit of Slovakia to Dublin on Tuesday.
Duffy was named as the Setanta Sports man of the match. The Derry native, whose father Brian is from Letterkenny, gave a towering performance at centre-back alongside Clark in his first international in Dublin.
Loving Coleman as captain ? Delighted too see Duffy get a start too ⚽️ @ShaneDuffy34 @seamiecoleman23

Shane Duffy is playing in a defence that has four of the five starters in the play-offs and he is absolutely hounding every one of them
