THERE WAS AGAIN NO shortage of action or goals in the latest round of games in the various grades of the Inishowen Women’s League. Here’s how it went:
U14 Girls – Moville 0 Cockhill 4
Cockhill opened the scoring after five minutes. Moville then came into the game with Shakira McDermott netting a fine goal only to be ruled offside. Cockhill added just before and after half time. The first three goals scored by the Gallinagh sisters. Cora Farren and Katherine MCLaughlin worked hard in the middle and Moville enjoyed a good spell at this time, but the final goal came from Robyn Faulkner, a pure strike from 20 yards.
U16 Girls – Clonmany 7 Sea Rovers 1
Clonmany started brightly with Saoirse Farren getting two early goals. Soon after, Clonmany’s Michelle McDaid scored an amazing goal. That goal was followed by yet another two goals from Saoirse Farren.
Mary Jane Doherty scored a goal shortly after that. Sea Rovers’ goalkeeper Kate Gallagher had a really good match. Tara O Connor scored a well-deserved goal, she played brilliantly throughout the match. Clare McCarron scored the final goal of the match.
U16 Girls – Moville Celtic 4 Buncrana 3
Both teams started well with Niamh Doherty in the Buncrana goal denying Emily Ryan, Bronagh Mc Guinness and Erin Coyle all with efforts well saved.
Clodagh Skelly forced to save from Lea McDaid on several occasions.
Moville scored through Bronagh Mc Guinness after a good through ball by sister Aishleen, Moments later Erin Coyle drilled to the bottom corner past Doherty in the Buncrana Goal after a through ball by Aimly Dailey.
Buncrana regrouped and pulled to goals back through Lea McDaid and Alana Doherty, Both teams pushed forward on several occasions with defenses doing well.
Buncrana scored their third of the game when Breena Doherty advanced into the area and finished with a strong shot to the top corner, Moville settled into the game and got their third when Carigh McGuinness headed home a corner.
Moville were on top at this stage, Breena Diver, Aimley Daily, Niamh McDermott, Sinead McGuinness keeping the home side save at the back.
Moville got the winner when Colleen McElory and Aiobh Faulkner combined in the middle to get Bronagh McGuinness away her pin perfect cross was meet by Coyle in the middle to slot home given Doherty no chance in the Buncrana goal
Ladies – Clonmany 1 Illies 7
Illies started off the first half with a goal in the 18th minute from Lauren Creggan.
Clonmany fought back hard showing determination and had a couple chances from Yvonne McElhinney and Maryjane Doherty narrowly missing.
Illies had another chance in the 21st minute but Francis McGilloway in Clonmany nets kept the ball out.
Clonmany came back in the 26th minute by a superb worked goal from Mary Doherty and Caitlin Devlin In the 31st minute.
Danielle Doherty scored Illies second goal with a solo effort. Clonmany had another effort from Louise Doherty but went over the top of the goal. Clonmany had another chance to pull it back with Yvonne Mc Elhinney but hit the post.
Colleen Kearney had a great chance on the 37th minute but just narrowly missed.
Illies scored in the 44th minute with a goal from Paula Mc gory to leave the score a close 3:1 at end of first half.
The second half started slow. Illies scored on the 50th minute with a fine goal from Paula McGrory and two minutes later another goal by Paula. Clonmany had a couple of good chances from Louise Kelly and Mary Doherty. Michelle Hands Kearney and Clare McCarron played an outstanding game at back for Clonmany. Illies quickly got another goal with Paula Mc gory to make it 6-1 on the 60th minute. Illies finished up with a last goal making it 7-01.
Ladies – Greencastle 5 QPS 0
Greencastle opened the scoring after 20 minutes, when Sarah Jane McDonald beat two defenders down the left, cut in and rifled a shot to the top right hand corner of Cody Anderson’s net, giving the QPS keeper no chance.
Greencastle were controlling the middle of the park at this stage, but their final ball was always letting them down. They created another chance when Danielle Barr’s cross picked out Niamh McLaughlin but her shot went wide.
Marie Kelly then tried her luck from the edge of the box however she clipped the bar and it went over.
QPS’ Niamh McColgan broke out from the back but her ball over the top was well read by Kathy McLaughlin and cleared.
Michaela Robinson and Maria McColgan were working hard at the back to keep Greencastle at bay. Greencastle went 2-0 up, ten minutes into the second half, when Nicole Gordon got on the end of a Marie Kelly through ball and slid low past Anderson from 8 yards.
They went 3-0 up ten minutes later, Nicole McDermott breaking down the right fired high into the top left hand corner.
Leah McGonigle beat two Greencastle defenders but her cross eluded all in the box. Greencastle got a fourth when McDonald was upended in the box and she slotted home the penalty. QPS’ Angela McCallion broke down the left but the Greencastle defence was alert to clear her cross.
Quigley’s Point had a free kick 25 yards out, but Greencastle defence again did well to clear their lines.
Greencastle scored their fifth and final goal with five minutes left when Eimear McLaughlin outpaced the home defence and slotted low to Anderson’s right hand side to complete the scoring.
