There was plenty of drama today in the Buncrana Credit Union Cup with Clonmany and Greencastle winning big, Buncrana defeating Glengad and Aileach getting the better of Illies. Here’s how all the action panned out:
Buncrana Credit Union Cup Â
Clonmany Shamrocks        6 Cockhill Youths                  1
The Shamrocks got off to a flying start and were two up after 3 minutes.First Jason Devlin sprinted clear to slot home past Declan Caldwell in the first minute and then in the third minute Paul McDermott finished coolly to the top corner from the edge of the box after Aiden Friel’s tackle in the centre circle had broken up a Cockhill move but this was at a cost with Aiden having to come off and be replaced by Ryan Doherty.
Cockhill seemed to recover from the early setbacks and in the 15th minute Shaun Doherty received the ball on the left side of the box and with the Shamrocks defence appealing for offside he lobbed Paddy Harkin to make it two one.
The Shamrocks quickly restored their two goal advantage in the 17th minute when Ryan Doherty received the ball on the right side of the box and his dipping shot deceived Caldwell and found the top corner of the net. Cockhill’s heads seemed to drop a bit after this and they conceded again in the 20th minute when Dessie Doherty struck a low shot from the edge of the box and found the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Cockhill held out for the rest of the half but 14 minutes into the second-half they conceded again when Dessie Doherty teed up Jamie Coyle at the edge of the box and he cleverly brought the ball up to send a volleyed shot past Declan Caldwell and into the roof of the net.
Clonmany used four of their subs and it was in the 73rd minute when one of them added Clonmany’s sixth goal.It came after Jamie Coyle had seen his goalbound shot from 15yards out handled on the line by Cockhill left-back Shane Doherty.
This resulted in Shane getting a red card and Clonmany being awarded a penalty.Fergal Harkin took the spot-kick but Declan Caldwell guessed correctly and dived to his left to save the shot but he was unable to hold on to the ball and the quickest player to react was Clonmany sub Mark McLaughlin and he deftly lifted the ball over the prone keeper and into the back of the net.
Sadly the game was brought to an abrupt end with ten minutes remaining after Clonmany’s Fergal Harkin was seriously hurt in a tackle and was taken to hospital by ambulance. All at the club and in the league wish him a speedy recovery.

Good work by Aaron McCarron saw him feed Dermot Doherty on the edge of the area and he beat two men before slotting low to the corner. Culdaff responded again and when Coyle laid a header into the path of Brendan McLaughlin who burst between defenders but saw his effort saved by Kyle Dougal.
When Dougal punched a Collins cross clear Brendan Mclaughlin collected a fired a superb right footed effort to the bottom corner from fourteen yards. Carn then had a chance but Ronan Doherty fired wide while on 86 minutes a Paul McLaughlin ball over the top found Brendan McLauglin who at full stretch just failed to divert the ball goalwards.
Culdaff again shot themselves in the foot when first a misplaced clearance and then a rash challenge on Doherty gave the visitors a penalty allowing Ronan Doherty to slot home the winner in the last minute.
