CARROWMENA were the big winners in the Inishowen Engineering Reserve Division One as they defeated Aileach Youths 7-0. Here’s how the action panned out:
Carrowmena Reserves 7 Aileach Youths 0
AILEACH started with the wind in their backs but failed to make any inroads against a well organised home defence. On 16 minutes an Oran McDermott free was well saved by Dylan Clarkein the visitors goal.
Minutes later John Lynch fed Samuel Bredin on the right and he cut in and fired low past Clarke from close range to give the home side the lead.
Carrowmnea broke again midway through the half when Gerard Gill cut in from the right and fired a superb effort to the top corner.
Aileach replied and went close with a Ruairi Bradley effort tipped onto the bar by Michael Noone just before the break.
Five minutes into the second period a strong run by Lynch saw him slip the ball to McDermott who rounded Clarke to slot home. On the hour a ball broke to Lynch on the edge of the area and he fired first time to the cornerfor the fourth goal.
Both Ryan McDaid and Thomas Coll threatened for the visitors but again failed to create clear chances.
In the 75th minute Mark Doherty and Andrew McLaughlin combined for the latter to slot low past Clarke from twelve yards to make it five nil.
The sixth came after a long kick out deceived the Aileach defence allowing Ryan Killen to nip in and slot home.
The final goal came on 87 minutes when Bredin cut in from the left and drilled a powerful low effort past Clarke.
Dunree Reserves 3 Rasheney Reserves 2
DESPITE playing into the wind in the opening half Dunree threatened first when Bernie Doherty had an early effort saved by Declan Grant in the Rasheney goal.
Rasheney responded and on 21 minutes John Doherty found space in the area but his effort was blocked by David Eccles and went wide.
Dunree then shocked the visitors when they broke the deadlock on 35 minutes after Marty Lynch fed Thomas Doherty who crossed for David Doherty to slide in and slot home from ten yards.
Rasheney spurned a gilt edged chance on the stroke of half time when John Doherty miscued from the edge of the six yards box.
Dunree took full advantage of this let off on the restart and on 48 minutes Grant parried a Thomas Doherty effort for Evan Barry to slot home from close range.
It got better for Dunree on the hour mark when Barry collected a loose ball and fired low to the bottom corner to make it three nil.
Rasheney were thrown a lifeline after John Doherty converted a penalty awarded for handball on 71 minutes.
They got another back on 82 minutes when a Kyle Doherty cross shot looped over Philip Doherty on its way to the roof of the net.
Carn Reserves 4 Culdaff Reserves 1
IN AN entertaining game the home side were full value for their win but if the visitors had taken chances at crucial stages of the game it may have been tighter.
Despite playing against the wind Culdaff had an early chance when a Brendan McGrenaghan clearance released Niall McLaughlin behind the home defence but he fired weakly at Daniel Mccallion.
Carn took control after this with a defender slicing a Rory Brady cross inches past his own post. Good build up play on 12 minutes ended with Joseph McKinney finding Cathal Doyle who turned well and unleashed an effort which Callum Doherty turned behind at full stretch. But from the corner the unmarked Rory Brady powered a header to the roof of the net from eight yards.
Ryan Diver then sliced an effort wide at the back post before Michael McLaughlin headed over. Just before the break a Conor McGeoghaghan effort was parried by Doherty but Diver fired the rebound wide.
Carn started the second half better and increased their lead on 51 minutes after a superb Aaron McCarron cross from the right hand side of the area found McLaughlin coming in behind the visitors defence and from the tightest of angles he headed home.
Six minutes later another McKinney corner found the unmarked Brady again and his downward header squeezed over the line.
Culdaff rallied and Niall McLaughlin controlled a goal kick but fired over before the same player glanced a header inches wide after a superb Dale Hutchinson corner.
They got a goal back on 67 minutes when Hutchinson retrieved the ball on the left and his cross was excellently volleyed home by Brian McCandless from 12 yards.
Culdaff continued to press and when Matt McDaid released substitute Niall Gordon his first effort was blocked by the legs of keeper McCallion before his follow up effort was blocked by a defender.
On 86 minutes a defensive error by the visitors gifted the ball to substitute Darragh Deery and with an open goal to slot into he somehow fired wide from twenty yards.
It was of little consequence as in the final minute McCarron was upended in the penalty area and Brady converted to complete his hat trick.
