CLONMANY SHAMROCKS AND Glengad United scored big wins yesterday in the Jackie Crossan Premier Division, but QPS were pipped by Aileach FC as the standings tightened somewhat.

Glengad United 4 Culdaff FC 1
GLENGAD started this game the better and had the first chance on 10 minutes when they broke quickly with Christy Mclaughlin advancing to feed Terence Doherty but he fired wide.
Michael Byrne then fed Patrick McDermott who fired wide from ten yards when very well placed.
Glengad opened the scoring on 36 minutes when Byrne and McMonagle combined for the
latter to release Terence Doherty through the middle to slot low past McLaughlin from the edge of the area.
Mclaughlin then cut in from the right and saw his effort just shave the crossbar.
Glengad got off to a great start in the second period when McDermott converted a penalty after McMonagle had been upended on 51 minutes.
Culdaff replied on the hour when Dillon Ruddy fed Brendan McLaughlin who turned and unleashed a low effort which Sean O’Donnell saved well.
The home side then increased their lead after Terence Doherty beat a defender and squared for McDermott to slot home from six yards.
The visitors then went close when a Darren Mullarkey effort was brilliantly tipped around the post. From McLaughlin’s corner the unmarked Ruddy tapped home.
Glengad sealed it on 82 minutes when great work by McDermott released McMonagle who unselfishly set up Doherty to slot home.
The visitors kept pressing and substitute Nial McLaughlin raced onto a Dillon Ruddy
passbut his effort was well saved by O’Donnell.
Culdaff were reduced to ten men when Conor Keddy was redcarded for a second yellow and the home side had the final chance when Seamus Doherty’s strike from the edge of the area was well saved by McLaughlin.
Clonmany Shamrocks 6 Moville Celtic 1
WITH the breeze Clonmany had the early pressure and Michael Devlin fired over when well placed in the 5th minute. Moville failed to deal with a long kick out from keeper Patrick Harkin allowing Mark McLaughlin to volley over.
They failed to learn their lesson and on 11 minutes another booming kick out bounced over Maurice McGeady and into the net.
They increased their lead in the 37th minute when Ferghal Harkin despatched a 30-yard free kick to the bottom corner.
They almost added a third when an attempted lob by McLaughlin was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the back pedalling McGeady.
Moville had a great chance on 51 minutes to get back into the game when Joe Doherty’s cross found the unmarked Charlie Gill but he headed wide from eight yards.
Clonmany made them pay on the hour mark when Jason Devlin fed Mark McLaughlin and he fired to the top corner from 16 yards.
The same player made it four nil when he got on the end of a superb Michael Devlin ball from wide on the left and slotted home past McGeady.
Alan Friel then beat two men on the left and
squared for substitute Niall Mclaughlin to slot home the fifth. Moville battled back and got a consolation when substitute Kevin McDermott pounced on indecision in the home defence to drill low past Harkin from 15 yards.
On the stroke of full time Clonmany had the final say after great work by Jason Devlin set up Brendan Devlin to slot home from six yards.
QPS 1 Aileach FC 2
AFTER a close opening the visitors had the opening chance when Anthony Doherty headed a Darren McMonagle corner into the side netting.
Midway through the half the home side opened the scoring after Paul Grant blasted a penalty down the middle after Raymond Buchanan had been upended.
Aileach took control of the game then with Thomas McMackin having an effort brilliantly tipped onto the post by Jordan McLaughlin before the keeper saved well from both Cathal McElhinney and McMackin again.
Just before the interval the point had a good chance when an Oisin McColgan free found the unmarked Grant who headed straight at John Roulstone.
In the early minutes of the second period the visitors almost got back on terms after an audacious overhead kick from Dermot Doherty came off the post before being cleared.
At the other end Oisin McColgan had an effort blocked when in a threatening position.
Aileach equalised on 58 minutes when Anthony Doherty converted a penalty low to the bottom left hand corner after a handball in the area.
McMonagle then had a twenty five yards effort well saved by McLaughlin before at the other end substitute Denim McLaughlin headed over before
Odhran McColgan beat the offside trap but Roulstone advanced smartly to block. Aileach struck for the winner when the unmarked Gavin Doherty headed home a corner at the near post to clinch all three points.
Greencastle FC 2 Buncrana Hearts 1
GREENCASTLE dominated the opening twenty minutes of this game and after three minutes James Curran’s free kick for the home side crashed back off the bar before Puaric Gillen cross shot shaved the top of the bar.
Eunan Hegarty fed Michael Henry who in turn released Ronan Doherty but he fired over.
Buncrana s first chance came on 25 minutes when Calvin Gallagher beat the offside trap and crossed for James McGonagle but he fired wide from twelve yards.
Minutes later Stephen McHugh went close with a free kick. With Curran receiving treatment off the pitch for the home side McHugh played a ball over the top for Ryan Curran to control
and fire past JP O’ Doherty from ten yards.
Greencaste replied and when a corner broke to Michael Henry he fired narrowly over.
On the stroke of half time both teams were reduced to ten men after Liam McCarron and
James Henry were red carded after an altercation.
In the early period of the second half Ronan Doherty was off target and denied by a combination of defenders while Calvin Gallaghers effort at the other end failed to trouble
JP O’Doherty.
Greencastle got back on terms on 57 minutes when a Matthew Henry free kick found Sean Cavanagh who glanced a header into the top corner from twelve yards.
Greencastle were on top then and Jamie McCormack fired over before Sean Cavanagh was denied by a superb Donal O’Doherty tackle.
On 75 minutes the home side took the
lead after a Matthew Henry effort was parried by Mark McGonagle but the loose ball fell to Michael Henry on the edge of the area and he drilled low to the bottom corner.
Danny Murphy then fired into the side netting before McCormack shot wide. When James Curran was given a second yellow for handball Greencastle were down to nine and Buncrana sensed a lifeline.
Stephen McHugh fired one free kick from the edge of the area just over and the home defence dealt with all the late pressure to get a vital three points.
Strand Hotel First Division
Cockhill Celtic Youths 4 Carrowmena FC 0
COCKHILL got off to a dream start when in the fourth minute when Jack McDaid crossed for Ronan McLaughlin whose header was brilliantly turned round the post by Kyle Dougal.
But from the corner the unmarked Michael Gallagher volleyed home from 12 yards. Carrowmena had a good spell then butfound chances hard to come by with Declan McGuinness ‘s shot saved low to his left by Sean Parker.
Somewhat against the run of play Cockhill increased their lead on 38 minutes when after a quick throw in Christopher Duffy crossed for Jack McDaid (Gill) to head home at the back post.
Carrowmena were first to show on the restart when Andrew McLaughlin unleashed a powerful effort which Parker saved suberbly.
On 56 minutes Cockhill struck again when a Ronan McLaughlin corner was headed to the roof of the net by Michael Noone before substitute Caolan Mullarkey blazed over a gaping goal for the visitors.
Carrowmena spurned another chance after great work on the left by Michael Coyle saw him feed McGuinness but he fired over.
With Carrowmena pushing hard Cockhill broke and scored a fourth after a brilliant pass from Sean Pearse Fullerton released Ronan Mclaughlin who superbly lobbed the advancing Dougal.
Rasheney FC 0 Dunree United 6
ON TWO minutes Shaun Doherty’s dangerous cross for the visitors just eluded the inrushing Oisin O’Flaherty before Anthony Doherty for the home side intercepted another cross from Philip McGuinness.
It was no surprise when Dunree opened the scoring on 12 minutes after a cross by O’Flaherty found Doherty who side footed home from twelve yards.
Rasheney responded and when a long range free from Charlie Doherty deflected off a defender and dropped just over the bar.
From the resulting corner Damien Friel had a header cleared off the line. Within a minute Dunree then doubled their lead after Liam Baldrick fed O’Flaherty and he sidestepped a defender before drilling low to the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Philip McGuinness then converted a penalty awarded for handball on 42 minutes. Damien Friel then had a free kick well held by Philip Doherty before McGuinness was denied by the legs of Roger McGilloway on the stroke of half time.
In the first minute of the second half O’Flaherty had a long range effort turned round the post by McGilloway.
Minutes later the visitors made it 4-0 after Thomas Mulhern headed down from a corner for O’Flaherty to sweep the ball home from eight yards.
O’Flaherty was then again denied by McGilloway before the same player completed his hat trick after he got in behind the home defence and rounded McGilloway to drill home. Rasheney spurned a good chance on 73 minutes when Paddy McGilloway released substitute Ben Lafferty but he blazed wildly over the bar.
Substitute Darryl Moran completed the scoring when he latched onto a long ball to fire high to the roof of the net.
Carn FC 2 Redcastle United 1
REDCASTLE started this game well and on five minutes Brendan Murphy had a long range shot that went wide.
From the resulting goal kick he had a second effort which deceived Daniel Houghton to end up in bottom corner.
They continued to press and Kevin Toner was unlucky when his twenty five yards effort clipped the crossbar on the way over.
Carn gradually came more into the game with Matthew McLaughlin seeing a free kick saved by Michael McCole before a Conor Doherty cross fell to Declan McGonigle but he fired wide when well placed on the stroke of half time.
Minutes into the second half Carn pressed and Matthew McLaughlin’s cross was met y an overhead kick from McGonigle which sailed just wide.
Carn pressed hard now and on 74minutes Michael O’Donnell clipped the bar with a free kick before an O’Donnell corner was headed wide by the unmarked McGonigle.
Carn equalised on 88 minutes when Brandon Browned fed Shane Doherty who flicked the ball past the advancing keeper for O’
Donnell to force the ball home from close range.In injury time a long ball was slipped through to Brandon Browne who tried to pick up a loose ball, an unsavory incident with the keeper led to the keeper seeing red and Cathal Doherty sending the penalty straight down the middle.
