DONEGAL jockey Conor Orr scored a notable win today at Thurles.
Orr won the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle aboard the 9/4 Politesse for trainer Lorna Fowler.
It was a comfortable win in the two-mile race as Orr and Politesse had almost three lengths to spare to the 5/6 favourite Fakiera.
Politesse pulled away as the race went on to the delight of Fowler.
She said: “Conor has ridden her a lot at home, knows her well. I think that has to help when they know a horse and know the stride on them. You have to use that stride with her.”
Horse Racing Ireland is continuing with racing during the coronavirus emergency behind closed doors ‘in strict adherence to Government guidelines’.
Conor’s brother, Oisin Orr – the joint apprentice champion in 2019 – had a handful of mounts lats night in Dundalk, with his best a third-placed finish on Poet’s Pride (9/2) over six furlongs.
Another Donegal jockey, Luke McAteer, was also at Dundalk, and had one race, finishing fifth on Stamp Of Authority (12/1) in the Crowne Plaza Dundalk Race & Stay Claiming Race.
