JOSEPH MCGONIGLE LED from start to finish to win the 2016 Lark in the Park yesterday.
The Muff driver was never behind as he swept to victory over the six stages of the event, hosted by the Maiden City Motor Club
Three of the stages were held at Drung in Quigley’s Point and around stages that he’s very familiar with McGonigle cruised.
McGonigle, with Falcarragh’s Ciaran Geaney on the pace notes, topped the pile in the Skoda Fabia and had 16 seconds to spare on Dungannon’s Adrian Hetherington, who was second.
The Dungloe crew of John Bonner and Leon Jordan were third in the Escort, 13 seconds behind Hetherington.
Gortnavern’s Brendan McDaid, with Karl Reid as navigator, was fourth.
Bonner and Jordan took the honours in class 7, but the day belonged to McGonigle, who finished second in last year’s Irish Tarmac Championship with Geaney winning the navigator’s championship.
