ILLIES GOLDEN GLOVES woman Chloe McDaid is into an Irish final after an impressive win this weekend.
McDaid overcame Morgan McNulty from Rathfirland in the semi-final of the Girl 3 50kgs division.
It was McDaid’s second win over McNulty in six days after defeating her in the Ulster final last weekend in Buncrana.
At The National Stadium, McDaid again turned on the style for an emphatic victory that was deserved and impressive all at once.
McDaid’s win caught the eye of the ringside adjuticators with all three of them giving the Illies woman the nod.
McDaid will now face Sinainn Coyle from Cloghan in County Offaly, who overcame Monivea’s Nicole Butler in the other 50kgs semi-final.
Finn Valley ABC’s Leah Gallen was pipped by Doireann Coogan (Sacred Heart) in the 52kgs semi-final, Coogan taking a majority 2-1 decision.
Gallen had beaten Oluwa Damse from Ryston 3-0 in the preliminary bout.
Alecia McMenamin of Twin Towns BC was stopped in the opening stanza of her Girl 4 60kgs semi-final by Geesala’s Aoibhe Ginty, a sister of Ciara Ginty.
Ciara Craig of Dunfanaghy advanced to a Girl 5 46kgs semi-final thanks to a comfortable win over Chelsea Touhey from Clara.
However, there were defeats for the other six Donegal boxers in action this weekend as Kathleen Martin (Carndonagh), Shania McCloskey (Carndonagh), Molly Catterson (Twin Towns), Alannah Sweeney (Twin Towns), Clodagh McGonagle (Carndonagh) and Kira McMenamin (Twin Towns) were beaten in their grades.
Next weekend will see McDaid and Craig return to action.
Carndonagh’s Jessica Clarke is straight into a semi-final and her sister, Labhaoise, will aim for her eighth Irish crown on Saturday-week when she faces Ava Doyle (Ryston) in the Girl 6 57kgs final.
Twin Towns’ Aine Gallagher will meet Fiona O’Keege from Rathkeale in the Girl 3 39kgs final with Kristina McFadden (Dunfanaghy) in action in a semi-final, meeting Lauren Sinclair (Ryston) in the Girl 6 66kgs semi.
