Letterkenny Rovers endured a humiliating afternoon in this Airtricity Under-19 League fixture suffering a 13-0 defeat against Dundalk at Leckview Park on Sunday.
Letterkenny Rovers 0-13Â DundalkÂ
In an embarrassingly one sided contest, Rovers were trailing 4-0 at the break before things got even worse in the second half shipping a further nine goals as the visitors went on the rampage against an out of sorts Rovers side.
It will be a tall order for team manager Anthony Gorman to raise his troops after this demoralising defeat but they will have to turn things around quickly ahead of next Sunday’s visit of Drogheda United to the Cathedral town.
Although, it was a dominant Dundalk display – as the score line suggests – the home side had simply no answer to the quality of the oppositions striker force with Michael O’Connor and Republic of Ireland Under-19 striker George Poynton grabbing six goals between them.
For the record, the Dundalk scorers were O’Connor (4), Poynton (2), Joe Doyle (2), Anto Reilly, Paul Finnegan, Cormac Boyle and Brian Cabraley.
Rovers finished the match with ten men following the late dismissal of skipper Noel Mailey for two bookable offences.
It may be a short interim season with just ten games to be played but Rovers will require some dramatic improvements over the coming weeks to remain competitive against such quality senior opposition.
