St Johnston Cricket Club’s underage development is in flying form with the club recently winning the North West Under-11 title for a third year in a row while two players have been called up to the Ireland Under-13 Development squad.
Last week, the Saints captured the Under-11 Cup as they defeated Ardmore in the final, played at St Johnston’s home ground at the Railway Road.
Harry Pearson was the star of the show for St Johnston. Pearson hit 28 runs, helped put out Cunningham and caught out Ardmore batsman Thompson off the bowl of Sam Macbeth.
Callum Laird helped himself to 14 runs, while Prathan Goud and Jake McKnight hit five runs apiece.
St Johnston reached 99 for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs.
In response, Ardmore made 71 for the fall of nine wickets.
Sam Macbeth took three wickets and Emma Macbeth accounted for two Ardmore batsmen.
St Johnston will now compete in the Under-11 All-Ireland final on August 20th – and it’ll be a home game for the Donegal side.
The St Johnston squad was Jake McKnight, Sam Macbeth, Tori Pearson, Kaylee Barnard, Callum Laird, Sarah Macbeth, Blake Chambers. Jacob Pearson, Callum Macbeth ,Emma Macbeth, Harry Pearson, Prathan Goud and Cory Chambers.
Meanwhile, St Johnston youngsters Kyhat Bhavsar and Scott Macbeth have been named in the Irish Under-13 Development squad for a three-day camp at Bready from the 7-9 August.
The Irish selectors have named a group of 24 players for the camp which was selected based on performances at the recent Under 13 Interprovincial Competition that was held in Leinster.
The first day is a training day, the second day is a 45 over intra-squad match, where the players are mixed up and they play against each other and the final day is a T20 match.
