John Kavanagh has been added to an ever-lengthening injury list as Finn Harps prepare to host Sligo Rovers in the EA Sports Cup tonight (kick-off 8pm).
Kavanagh sustained a hamstring injury during the second half of Friday night’s 4-0 loss to Waterford at the RSC.
Ollie Horgan, the Harps manager, admitted that he is unsure how long he will be without the on-loan Cork City player.
Kavanagh joins Mark Timlin, Gareth Harkin, Sean Boyd and Harry Ascroft on the treatment table at Finn Park.
There is some confusion about the availability of Mark Coyle, who was sent off after 26 minutes of Friday’s game. While Harps’ official team bulletin says the player is suspended tonight, the FAI’s list of suspensions says Coyle will miss the next League game.
That would be in accordance with rule 38.4 of the FAI’s rulebook which states that expulsion will incur a ‘one match suspension from the subsequent match of the same competition’ – and mean that Coyle would miss Friday’s Premier Division derby at home to Derry City.
For tonight, Horgan will ring the changes and is expected to give game time to the likes of Tony McNamee, Mikey Place, Michael Gallagher, Liam Walsh and Mark Russell.
“There will be opportunities for some of the younger lads to come in and make an impression,” Horgan said.
“Some of them have very good in training and deserve a chance now. That’s going to freshen things up and hopefully we can get the mix right that gives us a decent chance of getting into the next round of the EA Sports Cup.”
