SWILLY ROVERS HAVE confirmed that they intend to play in the 2016/17 Ulster Senior League.
After 24 hours of talks culminated in a summit last night between the club executive and the Trustees, the Ramelton-based club have opted to remain in intermediate football.
At a club meeting in Swilly Park on Wednesday night, committee members voted 9-7 in favour of withdrawing from the Ulster Senior League and seeking to make representation to the Donegal League to join the junior grade for next season.
However, high-level talks within the club resulted in last night’s meeting and had earlier seen the club hold fire on formally tendering notice of their decision to the Ulster Senior League.

“We came to an agreement that Swilly Rovers will stay in the Ulster Senior League and will now advertise for a new manager.”
Swilly were one of the founder clubs of the Ulster Senior League in 1986.
One of the oldest clubs in Donegal, formed in 1929, the club has a rich history at national level having won the FAI Junior Cup in 1962 and 1967.

Swilly won the USL in 1999/00 when Danny McConnell was manager.
The future of the USL remains unclear, though. Six teams competed this season although the executive committee are hopeful of attracting new clubs in the coming weeks.
Swilly will be under a new manager for their new season with Jason Gibson already having confirmed that he was vacating the hotseat at Swilly Park.
