It’s a busy period in the Donegal Women’s League with Ulster Cup fixtures starting in recent days as well as League games.
UNDER-12s
Lagan Harps 6 Kilmacrennan Celtic 1
Lagan U12 girls continue to impress in the Donegal Women’s League beating a very determined Kilmacrennan side on Monday evening 6-1.
Kilmacrennan went one up after five minutes with good work by Natasha McGettigan and Lucy McGeever, before passing out to Aoife Cameron who fired a low shot in past Amy in goal.
Lagan became to hold possession for long periods with Kelsey Gallagher, Sine Harris and Sorcha Keys defended well.
Sophie Canning played a long ball to Aileen Sweeney who was fouled in box, up stepped Ashling Mugan to hit a well taken penalty.
Sophie Canning and Tammy Gallagher worked tirelessly in midfield with Sophie setting up Ashling for her second.
Amy Doherty pulled off a great save for the impressive Meabh Brady for Kilmacrennan.
Rosie O Donnell extends the lead just before half-time. Hannah O’Neill controlled the Kilmacrennan defence with Lagan’s Amy Moore working hard during the second half setting up Ashling Mugan for her hat-trick.
Jessica McGinley crosses to Rosie for her second, before Jessica was removed due to a head injury.
Alisha Gallagher shot for Kilmacrennan was once again saved by Amy with rebound falling to Lucy McGeever, but Amy was quick to react and made the double save. Aileen Sweeney wrapped up the scoring for Lagan.
Bonagee United 2 Illistrin FC 1
Goosegreen was the venue for this game as Bonagee hosted Illistrin. With the weather settled, it left conditions perfect. This game had signs of a battle from the very start and neither team was giving a inch. Chances were created throughout the first half with both teams coming close on a few occasions.
It wasn’t until 25 minutes when Illistrin went on an attack with Ava Daly and a distracted Bonagee allowed Orla Malseed to score and take the lead. Illistrin went in at half time 1-0.
Again, in the second half both teams were creating chances. Both defences were working tirelessly throughout and on 52 minutes Bonagee got a corner, Caitlin Fletcher took a short one and on receiving the ball back had only one place in mind for it as she struck it high into the top corner.
With both teams level now, they both were pushing on for a winner and Victory went to the Home side as in the 60th minute when again another corner had fell to Grace Patton and she placed it in the bottom corner.
Credit goes to both teams for what was a very entertaining game and really neither team deserved to lose on the night.
Best for Bonagee were Grace Patton, Sophie Doherty and Leah Mc Aleer and a good team performance from Illistrin.
Raphoe Town Rockets 0 Mulroy Academy 3
Mulroy took the lead in the first minute with good work from a throw in and Lara Blaney finished well.
Raphoe got back into the game creating a number of attacks down the wings with runs from Samara McBrearty, Aine O’Flanagan and Erin O’Donnell.
Mulroy’s defence stood strong and goal keeper Mary Bridget McGeever couldn’t be beaten.
Mulroy got a second goal before half-time from a corner kick hit home by Caoimhe Mclaughlin.
In the second half Raphoe had a couple of good moves with Molly McGroarty, Ella McCarron and Samara McBrearty linking up well.
Libby Sachs had a great game in goals and kept the scoring low. Razina Wood cleared a Mulroy effort off the line.
As Raphoe pushed for a goal Mulroy got their third with a lobbed ball over the Raphoe defence and a good finish from Meabh Sweeney to give the visitors a 3-0 win.
Gweedore United 3 Milford United 1
Maryanne Ward scored four times as Gweedore United proved too strong for Milford United on Monday evening.
Ward was on fire again while Maria Gallagher netted twice for the hosts. Brianna Ferry and Fia Coyle were also on the mark for Gweedore.
Milford’s goal was scored by Laura McBride.
Raphoe Town Rapids 3 Finn Valley 0
Raphoe were slow to start and Finn Valley forward India Falls tried to get on to a few long balls out from Valley keeper Michelle Elliott.
India succeeded on two occasions to go one on one with Raphoe keeper Tianna Hannigan to no avail as Tianna cleaned up easily .
Niamh Toye marshalled the back line well with Maria McGlynn and Kelsey Parke from then on in.Raphoe started to use wing player Alicia McCullagh who bombed down the right wing all night.
A well-worked corner from her seen midfielders Cara Eaton pass to ClÃodhna Kelly’s who crossed in left winger Kasey Kee and she struck the net after 12 minutes.
Half time seen some changes with Daisy Leeper on for Kasey,Daisy working hard to hold ball up looking for the right passes,
Tianna came out of goals for Jessica upfront who had worked tirelessly in the first half to get onto crosses all night. ’Keeper Sienna Slevin went into goals.
Rapids started to pass ball about better with lovely feet work from midfielders and forwards.
Laoise Boyce who had come on shortly after made a great passes into Tianna and ClÃodhna who hit the cross bar on one occasion and Tianna hitting straight at Valley keepers hand twice.
Valley did did try to push through a couple if times but Sienna was quick of her mark to scoop the ball up.
Rapids working hard again saw Cara and Tianna combine to slip ClÃodhna thrrough for a one on one with Valley keeper Michelle Elliot but ClÃodhna made no mistake this time and slotted home.
Shortly after good work out of defence from Saaphara McCarron, who along with Shannon Gillen came on through the second half, helped worked ball back up to ClÃodhna who struck again to help secure all three points
UNDER-16s
Swilly Rovers 1 Raphoe Town 3
Raphoe Town came from behind to overcome Swilly Rovers in the Under-16 League.
Kelsey McAteer put Swilly in front.
Codie Walsh got the teams back on level terms when she raced on to a pass from Shania McMonagle to score, while Abigail Temple-Asokhu turned home a cross from Rebecca McColgan to make it 2-1 just before the break.
The Swilly keeper made a string of brilliant saves but was finally beaten with a super team goal at the end.
Cora McBride’s inch perfect pass sent Codie Walsh away down the right and her pin point cross was headed to the top corner by Ella McHugh.
UNDER-12 ULSTER CUP
Moville Celtic 1 Bonagee United 1 (Bonagee win 6-5 on pens)
Moville went close at the start when a Elouse Craig shot from a cross from Rachel Doherty but Megan Patterson saved for Bonagee.
Alana Condron opened the scoring for Bonagee when she scored from a corner, Rachel Doherty went close for Moville but her shot hit the side netting.
Moville went close again when a shot from Sasha Boyce was well saved by Megan Patterson, in the final minute of the match Sasha Boyce crossed for Rachel Doherty to slot in for the equaliser.
There were chances in extra time for both sides, but Bonagee ran out winners on penalties 6-5.
Clara Boyle was outstanding for Moville along with Rachel Doherty and Georgia McLaughlin. Best for Bonagee was Alana Condron and Caitlin Fletcher.
UNDER-14 ULSTER CUP
Bonagee United 1 Sea Rovers 0
Bonagee advanced to the quarter finals of the Ulster cup with a fine 1-0 win over a very big strong sea rovers team.
In a first half that had Bonagee well on top they just couldn’t convert when they got into good positions.
Grace Murphy and Andrea Cutliffe with chances for the hosts as they piled on the pressure.
The second half had Sea Rovers going more attacking and putting the Bonagee defence under pressure.
Amy Callaghan had a chance to put Bonaee one up with a great strike that went under the keeper’s legs but just didn’t get over the line.
Hannah hopkins made a great run into the box and was awarded a penalty for a foul, with Grace Murphy converting.
Bonagee had chance after chance when the ball fell to Katherine Hopkins, Andrea Cutliffe and Heather McLaughlin close but their shots were wide of the post.
