Finn Harps defender Packie Mailey is set to miss a large chunk of the remainder of the season.
The Convoy man pulled up in the warm-up before last night’s game with Cork City at Finn Park.
Having been restored to the starting line-up, his place was taken by Damien McNulty.
“Packie looks like he has torn his hamstring fairly badly,” Harps manager Ollie Horgan said.
“Hamstrings don’t repair in days. They repair in weeks and, maybe, months.
“That’s a blow. It’s going to be hard, but so be it. When the chips are down sometimes people come good – and we need them to come good.”
Harps are already without long-term injury victim Keith Cowan while Tommy McMonagle’s mid-season departure meant they were already shy on defensive cover.
Harps lost 1-0 to Cork and Horgan said: “He brings a physical presence that we missed against Cork.
“Physically to win the headers in the heat of battle he is a loss.”
