A FAMILY with strong Donegal links is enjoying success with their first racehorse purchase.
The McMurray family will run their horse Happy Romance again this weekend at Newmarket.
The family is headed by Ray McMurray whose parents – Johnny McMurray from Ballintra and Maura Craig from Ardara – are both from Donegal.
Happy Romance has won on four of its six starts, including the Weatherbys Super Sprint, Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sales and the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury earlier this month.
The McMurray family have a property development company and Ray said: “I’ve always been interested in horses. I had a pony when I was younger and my uncle had horses good enough to join the Irish equestrian team.”
Happy Romance, trained by Richard Hannon, has been ridden by Sean Levey and goes in Saturday’s Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.
