Success at Ulster level continued for the novice squads at Finn Valley at the weekend.
Having won the Donegal titles the previous week they had travelled in confident mood to Greenmount to challenge for the Ulster titles
They returned an excellent individual and team performance in the womens, winning easily with the lead athletes Leoni Mullen in second having challenged strongly for victory with a Dromore athlete.
Donegal champion Natasha Kelly was in third supported ably by Aine Donnelly.
The team title was achieved then it was the turn of a strong, motivated mens team but they encountered a particularly good Dromore squad who simply were too good on the day.
Having said that the Finn Valley lads held off Derry City team Foyle Valley to take silver by four points. Scoring team was John McFadden, Shea Carlin, Barry Gallagher and Brian McCrea.
In the underage Ulster even age championships, there was an u-10 girls bronze team led by Castlefinn NS pair Niamh McGlinchey and Katie McGlinchey plus in support Andrea Reid and Saorla Gilligan.
On to the under-10 event, a team victory led by Joshua O’Donnell (Drumkeen NS), 3rd with on board Caolan Gillespie, Matthew Dowds and James O’Donnell.
The u 12 boys came close but in the end North Down got there by a few points silver for a team consisting of Odhran McBrearty, Pauric McGettigan Conor Gallagher and Jack McGlinchey
Other strong performances came via Sarah Bradley under-16 and in the under-18 boys Oisin Toye and Aaron Quinn got up for top 8 finishes.
This all was on a weekend when much attention centred on the Dublin City Marathon where some 26 Finn Valley members had finish positions – a great personal achievement in each case.
Next Sunday November 3rd, it’s the Donegal senior at Finn Valley with even age cross country relays. 4 x 500m.
