DONEGAL boxers were celebrating Ulster 9 County Championships in Newry at the weekend.
Some 25 new champions were crowed with 32 boxers receiving walkovers at the finals held in the St John Bosco Boxing Club.
Dunfanaghy ABC were toasting success as the two Bernie McDonaghs claimed titles.
At Boy 4 57kgs, Bernie McDonagh defeated Lorcan Rogers from Omagh on a unanimous decision.
Three-time Irish champion Bernie McDonagh swept to victory over Spartans man Leon McMahon, to take the Boy 5 54kgs title back to Donegal. McDonagh claimed a unanimous decision win.
Letterkenny ABC’s Erin Aisling Ridge won the Girl 4 66kgs final as she edged out Ellie Young from Coleraine on a tense 3-2 split.
In an all-Donegal decider at Girl 6 63kgs, Carndonagh’s Shania McCloskey defeated Letterkenny’s Rebekah McGlinchey 5-0.
St Bridget’s, Clonmany man Kyle McGonigle lost out to Le Hanna from Townlands in the Boy 4 46kgs final while St John Bosco’s Emmet O’Hara was beaten by Castleblaney’s James McVicar in the Boy 6 60kgs final.
Ballybofey man Cahir Devenney, who fights for the Derry-based Oakleaf ABC, lost to Callum McGillion of Two Castles in the Boy 4 70kgs final.
Cormac Hall had Dunfanaghy celebrating a treble via his walkover win in the Boy 5 44kgs category.
There were also walkover wins for Keelan Collins (Dunree, Boy 4 39kgs), Carleigh Irvine (Illies, Girl 4 49kgs), Jason Lynch (Illies, Boy 5 42kgs), Brenda Collins (Dunree, Girl 5, 48kgs), Harry Good (Letterkenny, Boy 6 80kgs) and Molly Simmons (Carndonagh, Girl 7, 57kgs).
There are a further 17 finals down for decision this Saturday, again in Newry.
