GLENSWILLY CAME AWAYÂ from Malin’s Connolly Park on Saturday evening after a very high scoring and entertaining game in the All-County Football League Division 1.
Malin 2-10 Glenswilly 2-20
Christopher McMonagle’s goal was all that separated the sides at half-time but  a goal from Michael Murphy (pictured above) straight from the restart and a burst of six points effectively sealed the game for Michael Canning’s team.
The first half was evenly contested with Conor Farren hitting four points for Malin along with efforts from Brendan McLaughlin, Dan McDaid and Christopher McLaughlin all from play, while the visitors had Gary McFadden registering three, two from play along with two Brian Farrelly points.
Oisin Crawford got a point from distance and a Leon Kelly effort arrived before the key goal. Christopher McMonagle reacted quickest to Gary McFadden’s pointed effort which came off the post to fall to him on the edge off the square and he made no mistake past McLaughlin in the Malin goal, the half time score read Malin 0-7 Glenswilly 1-7.
Murphy showed his class straight from the throw in winning the restart and going on a strong run straight through the Malin defence exchanging a couple of one-twos on the way before advancing past the 13-metre line and dispatching powerfully past the Malin keeper to open up a six-point gap.
Farrelly added another before Anthony Kelly scored a sublime effort deceiving Murphy with a deft dummy before hitting over from 35 metres.
Glenswilly upped their game again and threatened to run away with the contest with two points from Kealan McFadden, a long range Ciaran Bonner effort, Darren McGinley, Gary McFadden again and a Murphy free from the ground stretched the lead out to 12.
Malin, to their credit, scored 2-1 without reply with Stephen McLaughlin pointing off balance and shortly after the same player hit the net after running through and the speedy forward could not be caught to shoot low past O’Donnell.
Brendan McLaughlin scored soon after when after he worked a quick free and received the ball back and again made no mistake as Malin tried to mount a comeback.
Glenswilly rallied again and exploioted gaps in the Malin backline and six points in a row with efforts from Darren McGinley, Cathal Gallagher, three Gary McFadden scores and one from Caomhin Marley sealed the win before a late consolation free from Brendan McLaughlin.
